Conceived and patented by Mollificio Bortolussi s.r.l., the company that owns the Vignetinox brand, it faced challenges from third parties who opposed the European patent. On April 23, 2021, the Appeals Board of the European Patent Office definitively confirmed the invention's validity, thus reaffirming Vignetinox's patent ownership.

Other challenges stem from the similarity with a single-leg hook used in construction, which, however, has much weaker fastening compared to the "Livio Hook." Therefore, it is absolutely unsuitable for securing vineyard trellises subjected to mechanized operations such as harvesting, trimming, pruning, trellising, etc. On the other hand, in the construction industry, the strength is provided by concrete, and the use of the single-leg hook is only for positioning reinforcement bars until the concrete is poured. Two completely different worlds, two entirely different needs, hence two entirely different strengths. This invention is the first of its kind and has no precedents.
